After exploring Panther Beach, my friend Justin and I headed to Downtown Santa Cruz and settled for lunch in a small, quaint restaurant called Cafe Gratitude.
Though initially distressed about getting lost and exceeding our parking time limit, we were instantly captivated by the cafe's inviting aura and aroma! From the friendly waitresses to the soft-beat music and relaxing shades of orange on the walls, the entire cafe seemed to encompass a groovy hippie vibe. The room was adorned with a variety of assorted plants miscellaneously placed on the wooden shelves, on the sides of the door, and on the front dessert counter. Even the bathrooms were embellished with floral arrangements and flyers for local music and volunteering events. A handful of other articles, like handcrafted bottle cap earrings and portrait paintings, also served as decor.

Cafe Gratitude is an organic, vegan food establishment that offers dishes made from local farm produce and ingredients and is located on the corner of Lincoln Street. I highly recommend dining here!
I had a great experience, and I am not exaggerating when I say that the food was heavenly. I ordered a dish called “I am Transformed”, which consists of two corn tortilla tacos, filled with black beans, fresh guacamole, brown rice, salsa, and cashew nacho cheese, a in addition to a salad with a sweet-sour dressing. I know, I know—it all sounds absolutely amazing. And let me tell you, it tasted even more amazing.
If you get a chance to spend a day or few in Santa Cruz, Berkeley, or San Diego, stop by Cafe Gratitude. You can thank me later.
