April 22—one of my most favorite holidays of the year! And what better way to spend Earth Day… than with our Earth?!
This Earth Day, I spent an entire day at the Earth Day Fair on San Jose State University’s campus, hosted by the university’s Environmental Resource Center. A variety of booths were set up and featured anywhere from eco-friendly products to games educating students on how to limit their carbon footprint. (My favorite things to learn!)

I learned about and talked to representatives from so many different organizations and companies, from smaller charities like Veggielution and The Green Party to larger corporations such as Trader Joe’s and Whole Foods. I tasted chocolate samples, bought a SUPER cute shirt from Crossroads, and best of all… playing in a petting zoo! I was one of the first people in line (well… I cut the line… on accident). The Little Explorer’s petting zoo was a mini-farm filled with goats, bunnies, teacup piglets, and my personal favorite, an alpaca.
I also pledged to reduce my shower time to 4 minutes (instead of my usual 5 minutes) and take part in Meatless Mondays! There was a Facebook event I later heard about called "5 Minute Shower Week" created to spread awareness on California drought. I took part in the challenge, and guess what my personal record was? 2:51.66 minutes, oh yeah. Everyone that participated had to post a photo of their time and post-shower selfie. Thank god for filters. |
I had such an amazing time being in this kind of student environment. Personally, I have a better time when I go to new places by myself than with another person; I suppose its because its a lot easier to come out of my bubble! I met a lot of people (and by people, I mean a really cute guy), learned about ongoing issues in San Jose, and realized that there is so much to look forward to in college.
